KBL HYPN System: water on demand, delivered

Pressure Boosting Hydro-Pneumatic (HYPN) system is a conventional pumping system converted into an automated pumping system. Kirloskar Brothers Limited’s (KBL’s) HYPN system is a water supply solution ideally designed for high-rise buildings and commercial complexes. A HYPN system maintains a constant temperature and helps eliminate unnecessary functioning of pumps in case of zero flow. Also, the system’s performance is controlled and facilitates energy and water optimisation. It is energy efficient and requires low maintenance and promises longevity making it cost effective.

An operational standard pump significantly contributes to operational expenditure in two ways – high energy consumption and high spending on pumps’ maintenance. According to Hydraulic Institute and Euro-Pump (The European Association of Pump Manufacturers), the typical life cycle cost of a medium-sized industrial pump is dominated by energy consumption and maintenance costs. The system helps curb these associated costs, majorly by optimising the energy cost through greater control on supply capacity of liquid, varying it as per user/system demand.

In case of KBL’s HYPN system, for further value addition, the company has increased the ease of handling the system. This was accomplished by coupling HYPN system with remotely accessible smart monitoring devices like mobile phone, iPAD, etc. As a result, the customers can remotely monitor and keep a tab on the status of their system on-the-go, wherever they are, right on their mobile devices. The remote monitoring option gives customers an edge in two ways -customers can take corrective measures before pump breakdown;it substantially reduces dependency on field inspectors thus ensuring manpower optimisation.

KBL has also coupled its pressure boosting technology with a wide range of pumps like inline, end suction, sump pumps, split case pumps, VT pump, etc. This customisation has enabled the application of KBL’s HYPN system in almost all the industrial verticals right from pharmaceutical and chemical process industries to like mining, textile, among other sectors.

Here are some of the major application areas of HYPN system:
Tank filling system from under ground tank (UGT) to over head tank (OHT).
Water supply to residential buildings, hotels, commercial buildings, township, airports, IT parks, etc.
Water transfer from one storage tank to other storage tank.

Bottling plant and demand-based industrial applications in textile, process, automobile, power, steel, cement, power, etc.

Types of HYPN System
Depending on their application areas and design, KBL’s comprehensive HYPN systems are basically classified into three types: Constant Speed System – FX, Cascade system – MX and All Pump VFD system – EX.

Constant Speed System – FX: Tank filling water transfer, residential housing, small size commercial – residential buildings

Cascade system – MX (only 1 VFD common to all pumps): Medium size commercial – residential buildings and demand-based industrial applications All Pump VFD system – EX (all pumps having their individual VFD): Townships, hospitals, airports, malls, metros and demand-based industrial applications

KBL’s exclusive pressure boosting pumping system is UL listed and all the pumps that form an integral part of the system are CE approved. As far as the certifications and accreditations for its HYPN system are concerned, KBL achieved one of its biggest milestones recently when the company became India’s first manufacturer of HYPN systems to be recognised with the prestigious India Design Mark (IDM), a design standard backed by a stringent evaluation process that symbolises product excellence in the form of quality and innovation. The IDM symbol is a befitting testimony to the extensive and dedicated efforts of KBL’s R&D and Design team that went into the development of such a highly usable, durable and efficient HYPN system.

KBL’s HYPN system has been installed in some of the most critical and prominent landmarks across India, including some of the major airports across the country like Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Pondicherry as well as across Metro stations like Delhi, Jaipur, Chennai, etc., apart from some of the significant building landmarks like GIFT City (Ahmedabad), K.Raheja H.O., BKC (Mumbai), Takshashila Hospital (Bengaluru), J.W. Marriott (Kolkata), Godrej Garden City (Ahmedabad), Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd. (Mumbai), Tata Arian Housing Project (Bhubaneshwar), etc., to name a few. Besides, it is also an integral part of the fluid management systems in some of the top factories like Grasim and Welspun Terry Towel in Gujarat.
