In India, we introduced 2D system which is more affordable for any customer. The return on investment for any contractor in this case is about 6 months.Andy Dhanaraj, Director – Sales, Global Construction & Infrastructure, Caterpillar India  The government’s ambitious plan to build 100-km a day cannot be achieved without giving priority to advanced road making technologies. Caterpillar, being the pioneer of smart technologies, is committed to bring in proven technologies to the Indian market and add value for all stakeholders, informs Andy Dhanaraj, Director – Sales, Global Construction & Infrastructure, Caterpillar India. How do you look at the opportunities for construction equipment industry in North-East part of India? The construction equipment industry in India is witnessing a very positive trend. The excavators segment has achieved about 40 per cent growth during the past one year. North-East is one of the primary areas where government is trying to focus more across all sectors like railways, roads, and other infrastructure development. We are also very optimistic about this growth trend and would like to be a part of developing North-East.Looking at the ambitious road building targets of the Indian government, are you introducing advanced technologies?Caterpillar worldwide is recognised as one of the top technology-enabled manufacturers of machines. In India we don’t necessarily have all solutions we have got, we actually brought all the machines which are suitable for this country. For example, in India, all our excavators and motor graders are equipped with AccuGrade Grade Control System – a high technology machine control and guidance system that allows operators to grade with increased grading accuracy and reduces the need for survey stakes dramatically. The AccuGrade solution is factory integrated, sensor-independent, and features a suite of products which includes cross slope, sonic, laser, GPS, and ATS technology. It helps in achieving almost 30 per cent fuel efficiency and 40 per cent increase in productivity. Further, our Cat Connect technologies help customers get the most value from Cat equipment or mixed fleets. They enable operators and managers to access machine operating data including total fuel consumption, average fuel rate, total idle time and fuel consumed at idle, total operating hours and several other machine data. These new technologies and services provide an increasing ability for customers to monitor, manage and enhance operations, gain more control of their jobsites, reduce costs and increase profits. As the government plans to build 100-km a day in near future, such ambitious target cannot be achieved without giving priority to such advanced technologies. Caterpillar, being the pioneer of smart technologies, is committed to bring in proven technologies to the Indian market and add value for all stakeholders. Every technology comes with some costs added to it. India being the price sensitive market, what kind of customisation you do to make the new features pocket-friendly?Whatever technologies we have introduced in India are already customised for local conditions. For efficient integration of equipment fleet, Caterpillar has laser driven technology, 3D systems and 2D systems. Also at the higher end we have drone technology where a drone is used to pick and scan the data from various machines in a site and provide more detail analysis with better integration. In India, we introduced 2D system which is more affordable for any customer. The return on investment for any contractor in this case is about 6 months.
